Our staff and trainees share space in the Centre for Pediatric Pain Research at the IWK Health Centre. With thanks to infrastructure funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), the Nova Scotia Research and Innovation Trust, and the IWK Health Centre, our research team is based in the newly renovated west wing of the Centre - please visit the photo tour of our lab space to view our facility.

Mindfulness and Pain Study

13 - 18 year-olds needed for an exciting research project at the IWK Health Centre!
We are looking for young people to take part in a research project to help us better understand how to help teenagers feel better when they are in pain. It takes approximately an hour and fifteen minutes to participate and you will receive $30 to thank you for your time.

Cold water bath: Take your hand for a dip?
Are you looking for a fun research activity for you and your child? We are looking for children between the ages of 8 and 14 years of age to take part in our cold water study at the IWK Health Centre.
This study involves visiting our Centre at the IWK for about 60 minutes, at a time that is convenient for you (including evenings and weekends). Your child will receive $10.00 and a Junior Scientist participation certificate and parents will receive $5.00 to help with transportation costs.

Can you tell if kids have pain or not?

We are looking for parents of children between the ages of 8 and 12 years of age to take part in an IWK research project to see how well parents can tell if kids are faking or hiding pain!
The study involves visiting the Centre for Pediatric Pain Research at the IWK for about 30-45 minutes, at a time that is convenient for you (including evenings and weekends). A $10 donation will be made to the IWK Health Centre Foundation on behalf of each participant. Parents will receive $5 to help with transportation costs and to thank them for their time.

We are looking for pediatricians, pediatric nurses, and pediatric physiotherapists who work at the IWK Health Centre to take part in a research project to learn about how well different medical professionals and parents can tell if kids are faking, hiding, or genuinely experiencing pain.
The study involves visiting the Centre for Pediatric Pain research here at the IWK for about 30-45 minutes, at a time that is convenient for you (including evenings and weekends). We can also conduct the study elsewhere in the IWK, if you have a quiet room with a desk available.
You will receive a drink and baked good to thank you for your time. A $10 donation will be made to the IWK Health Centre Foundation on behalf of each participant.

Are you interested in how your child expresses their hurts and pains?
We are looking for healthy children ages 3 years to 5 years 6 months to participate in an exciting study at the IWK Health Centre.
You and your child will visit the Centre for Pediatric Pain Research to participate in a research project studying how children tell us how much pain they have when they get hurt.
For coming into the lab you will be entered into a draw to win a $50 Toys R' Us gift certificate and we will provide you with $5 to help cover parking and transportation
